I purchased a fragrance oil impression of Tom Ford Oud Wood and mixed it with perfumers alcohol to create my own spray but after two months of maceration the result is a harsh and unbalanced spice bomb that lacks any of the creamy vanilla tonka amber or vetiver promised by the original scent profile, the opening is overwhelmingly dominated by sharp cardamom and synthetic pepper which completely drowns out the smooth woody base that makes the real perfume so beloved. Reading through hundreds of Parfumo reviews I can see that many people also experience this intense spicy blast at first but they are rewarded with a soft and sensual dry down after thirty minutes on the skin unlike my mixture which stays abrasive and medicinal for hours without evolving, the community describes the authentic version as a sexy intimate and elegant masterpiece that sits close to the skin and is perfect for fall evenings and formal occasions, a scent that supposedly whispers warmth and sophistication rather than shouting harsh synthetic chemicals. Honestly the this oil is so flawed that no amount of aging or mixing will fix the lack of quality control from the manufacturer, the wood notes are thin and the amber is invisible which tells me the bulk supplier prioritized cheap spice aromatics over authentic nuanced blending, I realize now that buying bulk impressions from ParfumsPlus was a gamble and I lost badly on this specific fragrance, I will not be buying this particular oil again or any fromParfumsPlus. I am certain I will not be using this mixture at all, I will simply let the entire bottle sit on the shelf until I finally throw it away because it has no place on my skin. 😞
