Vanilla Oleoresin - Solubility & Preparation for Fragrance Applications

Solubility in Ethanol:

  • Vanilla Oleoresin is approximately 85% soluble in ethanol under normal conditions, with some resinous or waxy residue settling at the bottom.

  • Under warm conditions, solubility may increase to approximately 90%.

Recommended Procedure for Fragrance Applications:

  1. Prepare the solution: Dilute Vanilla Oleoresin in ethanol to obtain a solution containing approximately 10-15% Vanilla Oleoresin.

  2. Warm and stir: Place the mixture in a water bath maintained at 50-55°C and stir for approximately 30 minutes at 150 RPM.

  3. Allow to settle: Leave the solution undisturbed overnight to allow insoluble residues to settle.

  4. Filter: Filter through Whatman filter paper to remove residual waxes and resinous matter.

  5. Final solution: The resulting clear brown ethanolic solution can be used in fragrance formulations, subject to compatibility testing.

Important Notes:

  • Solubility may vary depending on the batch, ethanol grade, and temperature.

  • Heating should be carried out using a controlled water bath, away from open flames and ignition sources, as ethanol is highly flammable.

  • Filtration may remove some naturally occurring constituents along with the insoluble residue. Test the final solution in your intended formulation before use.
